While a large portion of Belize’s forests are put under protection in the form of forest reserves or national parks, there are few active monitoring plans of biodiversity within these areas due to financial constraints, technical capacity, and human resources. Current conservation initiatives aim to buy large tracts of land for preservation and/or for sustainable use. Major threats NGOs tackle first involve assessing recreational viability of the area, immediate anthropogenic threats, and short-term biodiversity assessments. Thus, the conservation of wildlife populations is hindered as their status on landscapes are generally unknown to stakeholders and the science community.
With over 50 years of combined wildlife research experience, CWC can assist conservation NGOs as consultants in implementing and maintinaing an effcetive willdife monitoring program to track long term biodiversity tends. CWC will train all NGO personnel in wildife monitoring techniques (i.e., remote camera traps), data management, and data analysis.
